As there were clearly a few folk interested in the Hyborian setting, I thought I'd do a second game in Howard's World.

The Army of Koth has not been seen before on my blogs. It's been cobbled together from figures I have painted over the years, some having been rebased to fit with the Corinthians.

Men of Koth plus mercenaries (rear) from the Eastern Desert |
For this battle I've used Portable Wargame rules but dropped Exhaustion Point allowing units to fight to the last Strength Point. To win the battle a side must have control of each objective by the end of hostilities (or Turn 15).

At the oasis a very stubborn unit of archers fought on |

The Corinthians began to get the upper hand They now held the oasis and would shortly regain the hill |

Taking control of the hill freed up another unit to join the centre |

Despite the ‘no EP’ it looks like the battle still got concluded within the 15 turn limit - 12 turns is close to the edge…😯.
ReplyDeleteLovely report, and good to see the new forces arrayed. Are many of them ‘former Assyrian-types’? Good idea swapping the crossroads for an oasis, MJT…otherwise that scenario can be tough for the side assaulting the hill and defending the junction. Oasis, with a tad of cover, might make alllll the difference. Nice ine ✔️
Cheers Martin. The Oasis was a whim but worked ok I think.
DeletePS…are they Irregular 20mm?
ReplyDeleteThe Corinthians are all Irregular minis. The Koth types are a mix of HAT Assyrians and El Cid "Arabs" for the desert tribesman
DeleteThose Mycenaean - oops I mean Corinthian - minis look nice. They certainly have some snazzy headwear 😉
ReplyDeleteThe good thing about these battles is that they don’t require lots and lots of figures. Plus, with Hyboria and other imagi-nations, there are no exact uniform details (so no criticism because “the cuff turn backs didn’t change from white to grey until after the March 1803 regulations”).
Cheers,
Geoff
Quite right! That's why I like the fantastical !
DeleteNice armies, and a good battle. Two battles now in the Corinthian campaign of conquest....
ReplyDeleteThanks Mark - Corinthians are on a roll!
Delete‘Corinthian Roll’? …. comes with Koth jam and Shem butter, sir…🙂
DeleteHa! I was thinking more like the pastry kind that comes from Greggs - just don't think about what it's made of
